My gas bill is too high and i don't have money to pay it back or pay monthly . I'm afraid that I'm gonna end up at the court and get locked up.

No they will just shut it off, and you will have to pay a large amount to get it turn back on. you don't get put in jail for not paying bills, it just ruins your credit .

  • My boyfriend and I have started renting a two bedroomed terrace house in Durham. We have gas central heating paid on a meter, and put the heating on for four hours each week day and five at the weekends, currently we are paying almost thirty pounds per week, is this average?

    NO WAY!!!
    There must be something wrong.
Check the people before you paid their bill ( call your gas supply )
You could be paying their debt!!!
I lived in a 2 bed house which had 8 rads 2 of which were double rads and I was paying £10 a week sometimes £15.The heating was on most of the day cos my ex didn’t work so was at home all day.

If the tenants before you were in debt with the gas, it would have been added onto their meter so it could be that each time you put money/cards in the meter, it takes so much for their old bill.

If this is so don’t worry,as you will get it all back dated to when you moved in.

    Good luck.

  • i have been out of town for a long time, no one lives in the house, the only thing running on the gas is the hot water heater, no one is taking shower, no one is washing dishes, no hot water is being used, should it take this much money to just keep the water warm in the tank ? i had trouble with the gas company before with anouther house because i had all the main valves turned off inside the house, and they said i was still useing gas. so watts up.

Two questions please. What size water heater ( 40 or 50 gallons or even more?) and what temperature do you have your water set at in the heater? I have a 40 gallon tank but I admit I keep my water very hot at 180 degrees. I dont have small children in the house, so I am not worried about little ones getting burnt, plus I can take long showers by using very little hot water with a lot of cold water. In my mind, I think I am saving in the long run. But to answer your question, when the water in your hot water tank cools down, it will use gas to heat it back up to your setting. I pay an average of $45 a month in gas ( I dont use gas for home heating,,,,I use a pellet stove). If you want to see a difference, try setting the temp lower on the tank heater, but I dont see a bad problem at what you are paying. I hope you found this useful

  • How much would people say that a gas bill should be for the period of 13/04/08 - 22/06/08? Ours was £9.26 but our landlord is saying that that is far too low. We wouldn't have had the heating on and our cooker was electric. Don't ask why the landlord wants to know - he's completely anal and is insisting on making sure he knows we paid the right amount for utilities before he returns our deposits - six months late!

to me, that probably sounds fine. sounds like the only reason the gas would be used would be to heat your water.

sounds like he's just trying to think up escuses not to give you the deposit. kick up a stink.

  • for only a week each month in a first floor room that is 25×20, and to heat water in two bathrooms used by three people. We live on the east coast. We never had natural gas before we moved here. Does this sound reasonable, or is something wrong with the system?
    Docksrocks, you are too funny!
How do I check the insulation value?

It sounds about right the price of fuel is out of sight . You might want to talk to the gas co about energy saving methods and a budget plan to spread the cost out over the year

  • My friend claims you can & has her bill set up in an old roommate's name. They still speak & both are aware the bill was never changed over. The old roommate has a bill at a different residence now. My friend just pays the bill at a payment center. I think they're playing with fire & begging for a fraud investigation.

There is generally nothing illegal about having gas bills at two different residences; after all, some people have two homes, and others have both a home and one or more rental properties. The problem may arise not with laws but with the gas company's regulations. The company may require the person whose name is on the bill to be either an owner, a guarantor (such as a parent or a city health authority), or a tenant. If they find out this isn't the case, they can cut off the gas.

  • Locking in on a gas bill?

I just got something from my heating company (NSTAR) about locking in my price per therm for the gas supply charge portion of my gas bill for the winter heating season. They offer a fixed price of 0.9999 per therm. Currently it is 0.9799. Any advice about this, we all know heating apartments is gonna be bad like last year?. If I can save anything it will be a help???

I would recommend locking in to the fixed price situation. I checked my bills from last winter (Boston, MA), and the cost was 1.19347 per therm. The difference between .979 and .999 is minuscule.

  • What is the best way to track mileage. I have an Arco gas card bill and a spreadsheet where individuals report mileage. The bill and what the ind. report are never the same.

It is because the cut-off dates do not match up…

  • Today I got a bill for my electricity and gas, it's combined on one bill and it was 216.00 that seems awful high is this normal. We have a one and a half story home.
Is this a normal bill for winter?
    I"M IN KENTUCKY

that is about right for a house your size. and yes it is normal to have both on one bill. easier to pay when in one.
